Five Gryffindor Book Recs // rating books based on house traits with Charis Rae, Olivia, and Kelly

I’m so excited to do this collaboration today! One of my favorite series ever is Harry Potter, and this post is brought to you by a collab with other fabulous bloggers in the other Hogwarts Houses! 😊 

Today, Charis Rae, Olivia, Kelly, and I will each be posting similar book recommendations based on our separate Hogwarts Houses! If you have not seen their blogs before, I highly encourage you to check them out, because they are all some of the best and nicest book bloggers I know! 💕 (And they all love Harry Potter so of course they’re amazing already)

I’m going to share a few of my favorite Gryffindor-esqe books! 🦁 I recently went through my entire “Read” shelf on Goodreads, and these were the most Gryffindor books I could find! (As it turns out, I tend to read more Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff books than anything else, but we’ll work with what I have!)

For this post, I will be considering these five books and the amount of Gryffindor traits the main characters exhibit. Then, I will rate the amount of each of these traits one a scale of 1-5 in lions! Let’s get started!

Skyward, by Brandon Sanderson

I chose Skyward because the main character, Spensa, has a lot of Gryffindor qualities. She’s brave, fearless (sometimes a little too much so), and most of all, she’s extremely determined. Once she sets her mind to something, she’ll never let it go. Sometimes she’s a bit too reckless, but hey, what’s a Gryffindor without a little risk?

Sadie, by Courtney Summers

The main character Sadie is probably the bravest character on this rec list. In Sadie, she goes on a quest a find her sister’s murderer, and she comes face-to-face with real-life danger on numerous occasions. She is highly determined to get what she wants, and nothing can stop her from succeeding. It takes a lot of courage to go through the trials Sadie has to face!

(The cover gets bonus points for having red, haha! Very Gryffindor indeed.)

The Disasters, by M. K. England

The synopsis for The Distasters starts off with “Hotshot pilot Nax Hall has a history of making poor life choices,” and if that doesn’t scream reckless, then I don’t know what does! Nax is highly determined to become a pilot, and he’ll pretty much do anything to do so in this book. He’s a chaotic Gryffindor, what else can I say?

The Knife of Never Letting Go, by Patrick Ness

The main character of The Knife of Never Letting Go is Todd Hewitt, and he’s a pretty reckless little guy. However, he also is very brave/courageous to question his authority and uncover the truth of his people throughout the series. A lot of challenges are thrown at Todd, but he’s always determined to make it through and do whatever it takes to complete his goals.

(Again, bonus points for the red cover!)

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, by Ransom Riggs 

This one is a little tricky, but I think the main character Jacob is more of a Gryffindor than anything else. He’s always determined and usually brave, even when faced with the unknown (whether it’s scary monsters or suspicious people). And is he reckless? Definitely. But that’s usually what gets him out of trouble!
