Every time I do a 24-hour readathon, I set high goals for myself. This time, I just want to read some books! That’s all I’m asking for!
The theme for this readathon day is “Backlist Books“. I have a few books I’ve been meaning to read for at least 6 months, and I’m hoping to read some of them today!
Here is Day 1, Part 1 of my second annual Winter 24-Hour Readathons! (You can still join, if you wish!)
MORNING:
Before I get into the actual readathon progress, you must know this: On December 10th, my family found a friendly, beautiful lost cat near a local school, and since it’s been very cold here lately, we decided to take him in until his family was found! 😊 I’m currently the only one in my family on winter break (everyone else still has work/school), so I’ve been spending a lot of time with the cat. My first full day with him was December 11th, and I was not able to get anything done because I just followed him around the house all day. 😅 And that’s what also happened this morning!
3:00am – Although I was supposed to wake up at 4:30am, the cat started meowing and he woke me up so I could be with him!
I tried going back to sleep after he left… but he came back a few minutes later, and I decided it was time to start the readathon. 😅
3:30am – The first selected book of the day was Sorcery of Thorns, by Margaret Rogerson! I had been wanting to read it for so long, and I was very excited to start! (no matter how tired I was!)
3:52am – I liked the characters, especially Elisabeth and Katrien. The book was also giving me Hogwarts Restricted Section and Strange the Dreamer vibes.
4:00am – I realized that it had taken me so long to get into the book, and I was only on page 22!
page 29: Magister… Thorn? *suspiciously eyes the title*
5:44am – I had been sitting in my bed, occasionally playing with the cat, and I was only… 75 pages into the book! 😦
6:53am – I was really enjoying these characters so far. 🙂 The cat was also sitting next to me, and all is well.
7:10-7:40am – I did some morning chores and had some coffee ☕️
8:50am – I finally made myself some breakfast! 😂 I was too lazy to get up before, but then I was getting hungry.
I was really liking Sorcery of Thorns, but it was taking SO LONG for me to read! And I’m still absolutely determined to finish it today!
9am – My second cup of coffee was obtained ☕️
9:20-9:36am – I dedicated some time towards promoting #DisneyAdaptPercyJackson 💙 (Which, I now admit, does not count as reading.)
10:00am – The cat’s family contacted us! We finally found his family! (Although I was also sad to see him go 😦 )
On page 180.
11:20am – Halfway through Sorcery of Thorns, I needed a change of pace! I decided to listen to Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater on audiobook.
11:40am – Time for tea! ☕️
Later, I did some exercises while listening. I needed something to do!
It is now 12:55pm here, and I’ve just been listening to Blue Lily, Lily Blue while writing this post and making lunch! 🙂
Thanks for reading about the first half of my day! So far I’ve just been a very slow reader, but is that new at all? Not really. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Check in tomorrow to see what happens on the rest of my 24-hour readathon! Wish me luck!
Ahh best of luck with your readathon! If school wasn’t so busy, I’d join 😦

I think I might participate in a Readathon via Instagram that takes the whole weekend but since I still have so much to do and appointments and whatnots that I will probably only be able to get some reading done on Saturday. 😦
I’m happy that the catto found his family again, but I bet he was the best reading-snuggle-buddy. 🙂
I haven’t read the book but I can already say: Nope, there is only one character called Thorn I will ever accept and that is Thorn from A winter’s promise. I adore this series so much, there cannot be any other Thorn. XD

Good luck with everything you have to do this week! 🙂 I hope you can also get some reading in, too!
Yes, we’re so happy we found the cat’s family! They lived just down the street from where we found him, but they were so happy to have him back! And I’ve never read A Winter’s Promise, but maybe I will some day!

The cat is so adorable!! I love him!! I love that you followed him around the whole day 😂 and I relate!!
I love that your focus was backlist books because it is always good to focus on them!!
Wow that is a very early start!!
Aw.. it is nice that the cat found his family but sad to see him go!!
I liked the characters in sorcery of thorns too!! I’ve heard a lot of good things about the audiobooks for TRC so I hope you are enjoying it!!
Best of luck with the rest of the readathon!! And having more coffee!! 😂

He was so cute and fluffy! We had him for about 2 days, and he was the nicest cat ever. I had to follow him around because I didn’t want him to knock over too many things, but he was lots of fun to be with 🙂
I had to start early enough to be able to fall back asleep the next day before my family woke up! Otherwise, I suppose I could have chosen another time. I really enjoyed Sorcery of Thorns, and I like The Raven Cycle but I haven’t had the chance to buy the physical books – I read the first one as a paperback, which I liked, and I read the second one as an audiobook, and I don’t love the narrator’s voice but it’s really easy to listen to, and I like it overall so far!

Wow, now this is a reading marathon! I don’t think I’d be able to do 24 hours like that, good for you! That kitty is so cute, glad that you were able to shelter him until his family picked him up, he looks like such a friendly guy. Good luck with the rest of your readathon!

Thanks! Honestly, I’m not sure why I put myself through the whole 24 hours 😂 And yes, I had such a good time with the cat before we found his real home!

Awww the cat, it looks so fluffy 😻💕 I didn’t end up making it in time for the Readathon because I had so much to do, but I hope you’re enjoying your read of Sorcery of Thorns even if it’s going a bit more slowly 🙂

The cat was so cute! And don’t worry, winter is such a busy time! Good luck with everything you have to do, Caro! Sorcery of Thorns was very good, but I don’t know why it was taking me so long to read! Maybe I was just tired 😂
