The days are getting cooler, the leaves are changing color, and stores are bringing out their never-ending supply of inaccurate plastic skeletons. It’s almost time for spooky season! 👻
Recently, Mandy and Sha from Book Princess Reviews announced their second “Nightmare Before BPR” Readathon, which will take place throughout September! It’s never too early to start preparing for Halloween, and since I’ve been saving all of my spooky reads for this spooky time of the year, I thought this would be a perfect time to join the readathon! 😀
THE RULES
from Book Princess Reviews
🎃 create a TBR list or an “I’m joining!” post linking back to BPR so they can add you as a participant
🎃 complete as many prompts from the bingo board as you can
🎃 the read-a-thon starts Sept. 1 and ends Sept. 30
You can also use the #NightmareBeforeBPR hashtag on Twitter to share your reads!
THE PROMPTS
Can we please all take a moment to stare at this Bingo Board together? Isn’t it the most adorable Halloween thing ever? I love it. I’m in love, and this is the kind of cute spooky content I’m here for.
If you need any help finding books to read for the prompts, here is BPR’s spooky TBR list for the month!
MY TBR
Now, since school has already started and I’m already drowning in a pile of dusty Literature books (😔), I may not have time to read more than one spooky book.
However! I have decided to keep my spirits high (haha, get it? spirits? 👻), and hope for the best. I might be able to read more than one book on this TBR, and that would be quite the accomplishment!
Without further ado, here is a list of books I will probably start reading for this year’s Nightmare Before BPR Readathon!
Zero: A book with ghosts.
I know for a fact that there will be at least one ghost in Tunnel of Bones! This is the sequel to City of Ghosts, which I read and loved last year! It doesn’t come out until September 18th, but I know I will definitely start it when it releases!
Lock, Shock, and Barrel: A spooky book with a gang/crew.
I’m going to reread this graphic novelization from one of my favorite series – the Hollow City graphic novel. 😊 It’s been a while since I first read this one, and since I’ll have to wait another several months for the 5th Peculiar Children book, this is sure to hold my hunger for now.
The Citizens: A book with any of the following – deformed monsters, ghosts, ghouls, goblins, zombies, demons, mummies, vampires, werewolves, and witches.
I think The Diviners has witches in it, right? Or maybe it was ghosts. I’m the kind of person who doesn’t like to read reviews/the synopsis immediately before reading, and I don’t want any spoilers, so I can’t confirm anything! But I know it is supernatural. 🙂
I’m also currently reading The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, and who knows when I’ll finish that?
What’s This: A book with a mystery.
I’ve been trying to read Escaping From Houdini for almost a month now, and I will try it again in honor of the spooky season! (There’s nothing wrong with it, I’m just busy! 🙂 )
Santa Claus: A non-spooky book for a palette cleanser.
I’ve been telling myself that I should reread the Legend series before the 4th book is released and… a girl can try.
And that’s it! I honestly have no idea how many books I can read in time, but I’m allowed to dream, aren’t I? At the end of the month, we shall see how much gets done. 😌
Are you going to join the Nightmare Before BPR Readathon? Which books are you planning to read for this fine spooky season?
Chat with me about it!
You can also be my friend on Goodreads! 📚
Happy reading, everyone! 🙂
Ahhhhhh I’m so excited, Xandra!! You picked some great spooky books. The Diviners is one of my favorite books of all time – and it is quite the spooky read. A bit of a dense read at times, but omg, it will totally get you in such a spooky mood. And I’m intrigued to see your thoughts on Escaping from Houdini!! Thank you so so much for joining, and hopefully all the spooky reads are super good for you!! 😀

This looks like fun; I hope that they host something like this again since I can’t participate in this one

I think Libba Bray’s writing style really fits this readathon! Hope you have a nice and spooky month in September 😉 I think I will reserve my creepy books for October itself 😀

I don’t think that I’d be able to only read spooky books! I am going to finish the Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children series though. That’s enough for me XD

What a fun readathon!! I hope you end up loving all the books you choose for this! I’m pretty excited for Tunnel of Bones, since I was a fan of City of Ghosts! The two main characters in it are the absolute sweetest. ❤

I am always so, so in awe of people’s creativity when it comes to readathons, I wish I were able to participate in one and stick to it someday haha. I love your TBR! I really want to read City of Ghosts eventually, I loved Schwab’s books so far and it sounds like the perfect halloween read. And I need to get to the Legend series! I only read the first book so far haha 🙂
Happy reading! ❤

You’ll have to let me know what you think about the coldest girl in cold town. It’s been on my tbr for forever. I even started it a couple times just haven’t gotten far in it yet.
