Welcome to my newest book tag, in which I basically just recap all of my feelings for all the books I’ve read this year.
I was tagged by the lovely Kelly @ Another Book in the Wall! Thanks again for tagging me, Kelly! 🙂 And if you haven’t seen Kelly’s blog yet, then what are you doing? Go check out her wonderful blog!
Best Book You’ve Read This Year
Um, what kind of question is this? No one is ever allowed to ask me what my favorite book is, because there are just too many to choose from and I don’t want any of them to be left out!
I’m also very indecisive and I can’t choose anything for any reason!
But, for the sake of this question, I will be generous and give an answer.
I really enjoyed Strange the Dreamer. It was a fantasy involving books and myths, and magic and dreams. Something about it was so interesting and nice, and I’m sure I’ll read it again! You can read my review here.
Best Sequel You’ve Read in 2019
I haven’t read very many sequels this year, but I really enjoyed Gemina!
While I don’t think I liked it quite as much as Illuminae, I still really like it, and I can’t wait to read the last book! You can read my review here.
New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To?
*adds basically everything from my TBR*
The first things that came to my mind was Sorcery of Thorns! Although, there are plenty of new releases I haven’t read yet. 😅
Most Anticipated Release For The Second Half Of The Year?
For some reason, I feel like I’ve invested so much of my life into this series, but truth be told, I’ve only been reading it for less than a year! Still, I am very excited to read The Queen of Nothing.
Biggest Disappointment?
??? I only read good books, so they will never disappoint me!
But I will say that I have been slightly disappointed a few times this year.
Hopefully I’ll be able to write a proper review for this one, but just know that The Vanishing Stair was probably one of the worst books I’ve read this year. It wasn’t bad! But it was just my least favorite, and I personally think it was worse than the first book.
What disappointed me the most was that there wasn’t much plot development, compared to the first one. For the first half of the book, I felt like nothing had happened yet. And that’s not exactly a good quality for a book to have!
Okay, Broken Things just wasn’t my cup of tea. I wanted a good murder mystery, and instead, I got a slow confusing mess.
Biggest Surprise?
I… I don’t think I’ve been surprised by anything? Most books I read usually meet my expectations, so that’s good!
But if I had to choose a book for this category…
I honestly thought I was going to hate Carry On with a passion. But I didn’t!
It was funny and amusing, once I got past all of the strange parallels with Harry Potter.
Newest Fictional Crush?
Again, ??? I haven’t been keeping track of this!
But I guess, um… *scrolls through Goodreads* I guess I have to choose one.
Lazlo Strange from Strange the Dreamer, I suppose.
I choose Lazlo because he’s very much like me, and I just love him so much. He’s gentle, kind, and he absolutely loves books. What’s not to love?
This also isn’t new, but I really enjoy reading about Cardan and The Wicked King in general, and okay that’s enough, no more questions, goodnight.
Book That Made You Cry?
I don’t think… I don’t think I’ve really cried very much this year?
I definitely cried while rereading Challenger Deep, even though I already knew what was going to happen. I’m a huge crier, what can I say.
I also cried while reading Gemina, because it was good, and I’m emotional.
Book That Made You Happy?
All of them? Reading makes me happy!
I will say that A Thousand Perfect Notes made me happy that I finally read it! It was very worth it!
Favorite Book-To-Film Adaptation?
How many Book-To-Film Adaptations have come out this year? I don’t think I’ve seen any of them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Favorite Post You Have Done This Year?
All of my posts are my babies, and I refuse to choose just one of them.
So once again, I’m going to choose a few!
The Folk of the Air Book Tag // The Cruel Prince & The Wicked King
One of the first posts I made this year was the annoucement of this creation! After reading The Wicked King, I was surprised that no one had made a Folk of the Air book tag, so I created it myself!
Discussions & Rambles // What makes a great plot twist?
This was one of my favorite posts to write! It was interesting, and I even made myself laugh. I loved this post so much!
Everything We Need in a Percy Jackson TV Show
I wrote a post about what an amazing Percy Jackson show would need to include, and I loved writing it! I also wouldn’t mind if this post fell into the hands of whoever may produce a Percy Jackson TV show. Please and thank you.
8 Things I Should Have Known When I Started Blogging
I really enjoyed making a post about things I wish I had know when I started blogging! I’m also planning on making a Part II soon, so look out for that! 😉
Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year?
This is hard. I’ll try to choose a good one!
I’m not sure how much I’m ready to read The Storm Crow, but the book itself is stunning.
I’m not going to tag anyone, since it’s already way past the mid-year mark! But feel free to do it, too!
Have you read any of these books? What did you think? Do you agree with my statements? Is it also hard for you to choose just one book for each category?
Chat with me about it!
You can also be my friend on Goodreads! 📚
Happy reading, everyone! 🙂
Great list! The book that made me cry this year was The Fighters by C.J. Chivers. It’s a weaving together of the stories of veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and man does it pack an emotional wallop.

*forever screaming about the cruel prince* that’s a big same, I feel like I’ve been around this series forever, when I just recently finished the wicked king. I can’t wait for the queen of nothing !! ❤ (I bet I'll have to wait for ages before reading it tho)

GEMINA IS SOOO GOOD! It’s my favorite of that series! I have the audiobook on my ipod. It’s just so amazing ugh.
And Sorcery of Thorns is good too! I finished it yesterday and it was SO WORTH IT!!!
And The Queen of Nothing is definitely my most anticipated release. I’ve been saving my money so *maybe* I can buy the Barnes and Noble edition of the entire series (I prefer the dark covers)
Have you seen the Barnes and Noble cover for TQOF yet?

I loved Gemina, and it really did make me cry several times! I haven’t listened to the audiobooks yet, but I will when I reread the series! 🙂 And I’m also very excited to read Sorcery of Thorns! I probably won’t read it until November, but I’ll try to read it soon!
I also prefer the dark covers for The Folk of the Air series, especially the one for TQON! 🙂

YES DARK COVERS ARE AMAZING they should happen more often ahah. AND I’LL SAY IT AS MANY TIMES AS NESSECARY: I LOVE THE AUDIOBOOKS they are basically audiodramas which are the BEST and ahhhhh I love the characters for Nik and Ella in Gemina. I have Gemina on my Ipod and I listen to it all the time ahh it’s so good. SOrry another Gemina rant but I hope you listen to the audiobook soon! It’s worth it

Love your answers, Xandra! And aww, thank you so much for your kind words! Broken Things wasn’t my favorite either! I was hoping for so much more, but it was slow as hell! *sigh* I just recently read Illuminae, and LOVED it! I cannot wait to dive into Gemina soon! ❤

Thanks, Kelly! 🙂 I didn’t really connect with Broken Things, although I really wanted to like it. It was slow and strange sometimes, and the ending was a bit boring. I’ve glad you loved Gemina when you read it earlier this month, and I loved it too! I’ll probably read Obsidio a few months from now, but I can’t wait!

Yeah, it was definitely pretty slow and weird at times. I hoped the ending would redeem, but alas … lol

I still haven’t read Strange the Dreamer. 😓 I need to soon though! And Gemina was great, how’d you like Nik and Hannah??
Also, you’re not at all late to this post…considering there’s me, who hasn’t done it yet. 😂 Happy reading Xandra! ❤️

Yes it does, and I’m so excited! It was supposed to be next year, but the date was changed! And if you haven’t read Strange the Dreamer yet, I hope you love it! (And yes, I really liked Nik and Hannah from Gemina! I prefered Ezra and Kady, but the new characters were still good!) 🙂

oooh I feel you about Carry On! I expected to dislike it, and while I DID dislike several things, the book in its entirety is surprisingly… okay. I’m actually (quietly) looking forward to Wayward Son haha.

I agree! The beginning of Carry On was hard to get into because it was just so much like Harry Potter, but after a while, I started to really enjoy it!

I just finished Sorcery of Thorns and it’s so good, Xandra!! I really think you’ll love it! But ahh, I’m so sad that The Vanishing Stair didn’t work for you! It’s on my TBR and I was hoping that it would be better than Truly Devious. Ahh, those pictures of The Storm Crow are amazing 😍 I hope you get to read all of the books you want to by the end of the year!

Ahh I’m so excited to read Sorcery of Thorns, eventually! I hope I like it, and I probably will! If you liked Truly Devious, then The Vanishing Stair will probably be okay for you – I liked the characters in Vanishing Stair, but I just feel like nothing really happened in the book ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ And thank you! I wish you good luck on your TBR for this year, too!
