What Happened Over These Past 2 Months? // May Wrap Up

Hey! How is everyone doing today? How is your June so far? I hope you’re relaxing, even just a little bit, because you deserve it.

I didn’t do a Wrap up in April. And can you guess why?

That’s right, my friends. Because I didn’t read anything.

However, my luck changed in May, when I finished my semester of college! Now I am free, for a few months, I’ve already read some books. April and May were very busy and boring for me, but now that it’s summer… I can just relax.

Well, I didn’t get to read as much as I had hoped. Other than the classic novels I read for school, I only read 2 books. Here are the ones I’ve read and reviewed recently:

I loved Strange the Dreamer! It was a great Fantasy and I’m so glad I enjoyed it.

A Thousand Perfect Notes was also so good!

And… other than these two books, I didn’t finish any others.

I did, however, start reading Hunting Prince Dracula and Invisible Ghosts! So at least that’s something.

I wasn’t able to blog much in both April and May (haha, what a surprise…), but most of the posts I did put up on my blog were pretty fun to make! Here are some of my favorites.

I talked about things I wish I had known when I started blogging!

If you want to learn more about how to tag someone properly, how to write a review, how to blog hop, or how to write a discussion, all of these things and more are covered in this post I made just for you! 😀

I made a “parody advice” post, in which I pretended like I knew how to find the perfect book. As if!

This post was fun because it actually did make a little bit of sense, but of course, there was a lot of exaggeration and sarcasm. 😉

Here, I talked about some of the funniest and weirdest book-related stories I could share from my childhood!

Some of them were funnier than I remembered, and some were just your typical book nerd happenings. I loved remembering some of my bookish ways from the past!

And lastly, I shared an essay about the themes of love, death, and mortality in Harry Potter.

I wrote the essay last year, and it’s still one of my favorite projects I’ve ever worked on!

I ran out of time to mention this anywhere else, but I reached 500 WordPress followers a few days ago! ✨

Thank you all so much for supporting my blog, and I appreciate all of you very very much! 💕 I still can’t believe I’ve made it this far. Thanks for reading my little ramblings!

I’m sorry I haven’t been around much (again, school was in the way)! 🙈 I was not able to blog hop in the way that I normally do, or save a lot of my favorite posts from you all.

If one of your posts is not listed here, just know that I still love you! 💕 Even if I just ‘liked’ one of your posts, I’m still reading it and enjoying it, but maybe I just didn’t have time to comment or save your post.

✨ Diversity and Representation in YA feat. a rant about ‘Americanism’ – Discussion from J R Lynn @ Eternity Books

J R Lynn discussed diversity and representation in YA, and it was everything I needed to hear at the moment.

✨ MENTAL HEALTH MAY | YA ANXIETY BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS FROM YOUR LOCAL ANXIOUS FISH (ME) from Cait @ Paper Fury

Cait made a list of YA books for Mental Health Month, and even though it’s no longer May, the list is still spot on! I really need to catch up on some mental health books.

✨ DOES ENGAGEMENT EQUAL SUCCESS AS A BLOGGER? from Kelly @ Another Book in the Wall

Kelly discussed blog engagement and what it means to be a “successful” blogger. Honestly, I think it’s so easy to compare ourselves to other bloggers, and I’m very guilty of doing so. This discussion really helped me see that everyone has to have their own blogging journey, and engagement does not always mean success. A few months ago, I realized that I wanted my posts to focus more on quality than quantity, and I realized that it’s okay if I only post a few times a week. 🙂 This was such an important discussion!

✨ BOOK BLOGGING WITH ANXIETY from Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books

Marie discussed blogging with anxiety and dealing with mental health / self-care, which is something so important to me because I was recently diagnosed with anxiety.

Blogging can be stressful for a lot of people, and I think always it’s important to take a break or slow down whenever needed. It’s okay to take a step back and acknowledge when you need some time away from blogging or anything else, and I appreciate Marie for talking so openly about this. 💕

✨ People Who Haven’t Read TSC Guess If Quotes are Real or Fake from Arin @ Tomes of Our Lives

Over on Arin’s blog, I guessed if some quotes from The Shadowhunter Chronicles were real or not. This was a super fun game, and I would love to do something like that again! (I actually guessed a lot of them right, so that’s a surprise!)

I announced that I would like to do some 24-Hour Readathons this summer!

But seriously… what have I gotten myself into? *shakes head*

If you would like to join, I will be hosting the Readathon on two different dates: June 13th and June 18th. There will probably be one in July, but I haven’t set any dates for that one yet!
(Sorry to everyone who was available on the 12th – I forgot that it’s my grandpa’s birthday that day! 😂 You can still do it then, but I just won’t do it with you until the next day!)

If you would like to join a Readathon, please join this Discord or tell me below when you’re available!

How My Readathons Work

Even if no one joins me, this is how it will go down.

  • On the day the Readathon starts, I will probably wake up between 3-5am.
  • After about 12 hours, I will post an update to this blog about my progress.
    • If you’re doing the Readathon with me, you don’t have to do this! But you can if you want, and it would be fun! 🙂 I think it would be awesome if you at least posted one post, but no worries if you don’t.
    • See one of my previous 24-Hour Readathons for an example.
  • The next morning, I will post a second update about how the rest of the Readathon went for me!
    • Again, you don’t have to do this, but it would be fun to see how we made progress together!

Other than that, I’m not sure if I’m doing anything else particularly exciting in June… but I am going to New York City in a few months! Let me know if you think I should do something bookish while I’m there!

Goals! I don’t usually follow any of the goals I set for myself, but like having them here anyway. It doesn’t hurt.

  • Post at least 10 posts!
  • Write a little bit more of my WIP! I would like to write 3 more chapters! 🙂
  • Read books, to get myself back into reading! I can do it.

  1. I hope you’ll get back into reading and you’ll have a great summer!!🤗
Also, I would love to participate in the Readathon! I still have school until June 14th, but I can sacrifice 6 reading hours on June 12th (cuz on 18th I’m going somewhere with my classmates)

  2. Congrats on 500 followers!! That’s such a huge milestone! I’m glad you feel like you’ll be able to get a lot of reading done this summer, that’s always a great feeling. I might be able to join in on one of your readathon days! I’ve never done a readathon before, so that should actually be really cool 🤗

  3. Congrats on 500 followers, it is so cool and so well deserved!!! I would love to do a 24 hour readathon still, I am off on both of those days. I don’t know if I will do one or both, it will depend on what I am up to haha. I always keep reading logs and post them after the readathon is over, but I like the idea of posting halfway through the day. We will see what happens I guess lol.

  5. Xandra, congrats on 500 followers!
I’m also wishing you an amazing summer! I hope you enjoy a lot this extra time to read & blog and do all the things you want. I’m looking forward to my winter break a lot as well, though it’s still a month away, sadly. But I’m just so ready to worry about nothing for a whole month. (Our winter break is quite short, but that’s okay; one month will be good enough for me).
Hope you have an amazing June!

  6. Congrats on hitting 500! I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more than you!! I definitely relate to school getting in the way of my reading. I had summer from late March, but I go back next week and I’m trying to cram in as much reading as I can because I know my time will become severely limited. I may participate in the readathon though, but idk because my body seriously just rejects readathons and planned reading, but I’ll try my best, and it would be so cool to post a readathon wrap-up on my blog! Anyways, I hope you enjoy your trip to New York!

    1. Thank you thank you, Caitlin! 😊 I hope I can read a lot during my summer, but so far I feel like I’m so busy! The readathon actually went better than I had expected – the first two times I did it, I got really tired halfway through, but when I did the readathon a few days ago, I was generally okay the whole time!

I hope school doesn’t get in the way of your reading too much, and I wish you a great rest of June!
