Monthly Writing Update #2 // all is not well in dragon land

Well, would you look at that. I was supposed to post this like two weeks ago, but it’s fine, whatever!

Hello friends, and welcome to my second Writing Update! 🙂

For every month in 2019, I plan on posting one of these just to track my progress while working on the first draft for my Work In Progress novel.

I’m trying to finish this draft by December, so let’s see how that goes!

What did you work on since last post?

I’m writing a Fantasy novel which I started in early 2018!

This time around, I focused on writing whatever I could. I added a few details to the opening chapters and then I wrote a few more chapters, I think? Oh, and I also did some more research.

In January, I had completed the full outline for the novel, and recently I’ve been going through… well, I guess you could say I’m having a Genre Crisis.

My WIP has princes and dragons!! (I know a lot of you already said you’re excited, but don’t worry! There will be more info next!)

I know I want this story to be Fantasy, but I’m also trying to break some stereotypes here. Should I do the typical Castles + Dragons + Royalty = Medieval Fantasy? Or should I go a different route and make it more of a Modern / Urban Fantasy? It wouldn’t really change the story, but I’m still thinking about this.

How many words did you write?

I think I wrote between 7,000-8,000 words, but most of it happened in the beginning of February.

But, it’s hard to tell exactly how much I wrote, since I went back and edited some of the plot and previous chapters. I also did a lot of extreme thinking, so there’s that!

How many chapters?

I wrote exactly one chapter (it was a really long one) and a half, and then I edited a few others.

A few days ago, I was looking back at everything I had written in early Feburary, and there was this whole chapter that I didn’t remember writing. 😳 Very strange, but hey! At least I wrote it!

So far, I have a total of 4 chapters which means that I’m a little behind, since my current outline says I should have like 24 by December… oh well 😂 I’ll have a lot of time in the Summer, so I’m not worried yet.

What do you want to accomplish next month?

During the next month or so, I hope to write at least two chapters!

At this point that seems a bit out of reach, but I can try my best! I just might have to cut down my blogging time a bit.

That’s all for this Update… but for the next Update, I will tell you all about the WIP itself! I’m so excited to share the premise of the story with you! 💕

Don’t worry, it’ll be so much more interesting than just seeing how many words I’ve written! 😆

Are you working on any drafts? How’s it going so far? Would you be interested in hearing more about my Fantasy WIP?

I want to hear all of your thoughts! 😊

You can also be my friend on Goodreads! 📚

Happy writing, everyone! 😀

    1. Thanks! And don’t worry about your own progress – everyone has their own style! Technically I’ve been working on this story for over a year, but the first year was just planning! (And series especially take a long time to plot!) Good luck with your own WIP 💕
